Material Research
Ply wood is a man-made wood type. It has high tensile strength in all directions. It has high longevity. It is easy to work with. Plywood is ecofriendly which means that it doesn’t harm the environment.

Pine is a natural type of wood. It is ecofriendly and is easy to work with. It has h availability. It is softwood.

Pine wood can be found at lumber stores such as Oregon Pine Store in Rotterdam.
Aluminium has a lighter weight compared to many other metals. It can be put in shapes easily so it is easy to work with it. The material itself is not expensive but it does require some equipments which could be costly. It is durable and recyclable. Since it can be recycled it is environmentally friendly. It is non-magnetic.

Aluminium can be found at metal construction companies and aluminium suppliers such as the Metaalwinkel in Rotterdam.
Polypropylene is a type of plastic mainly used in the making of toys, bowls and crates. It is not as easy to work with but can be used to make prototypes. A downside can be that it is not environmentally friendly.

Polypropylene can be bought online.
Polyester is a type of textile. It is used in the making of seatbelts, tents, clothing like rain jackets. It is cheap but it is not environmentally friendly. Harmful chemicals are emitted during the making of polyester and is not recyclable.

Clay is really easy to shape. It is environmentally friendly and is cheap. For prototyping it can be very useful to use clay in order to get an idea of what the final product will look like but the outcome would mainly be low to middle fidelity. It is cheap and easy to find.

My Favorite Designer - Naoto Fukasawa
Naoto Fukasawa was born in 1956 in Yamanashi Prefecture Japan. He graduated from Tama Art University’s Product Design department in 1980. He first started working at Seiko Epson. He was responsible for advanced development design. In 1989 he moved to the US. After he returned to Japan in 1996. He established and headed up IDEO’s Tokyo office, creating a Japanese design consultant base for the company. He went independent in 2003 and established NAOTO FUKASAWA DESIGN. Currently, Fukasawa designs for a wide range of leading brands worldwide in Italy, Germany, America, Switzerland, Spain, China, Korea, Thailand, Taiwan, Singapore, France, Portugal, Sweden and Finland, as well as consulting and designing for local Japanese companies.His designs span a wide variety of fields, from precision electronic equipment to furniture, interior spaces and architecture.
He is a professor in the Integrated Design Department at Tama Art University.
